My idea of a true leader is: I've list 5 points which are all internal Qualities:

1. They must possess a throbbing, pulsating and purposed filled vision, birthed and preserved through the furnace of fire, for which they are willing to give up everything, including their lives.

2. They must posses highly recommendable integrity level as their signature of lifestyle. They keep their word. They are bound by their words as words are contracts to them.

3. They are caring, empathizes and give up self interest for the interests of others. They put you first and not ditched you when you're in problem.

4. They are humbled from the inside out, dont show off or pride themselves with their achievements. There's fragrance of meekness when you're around them.

5. They are servant leaders for they know the source of their authority and power comes from serving others. They lead by example.

I guess is time to not generalise leadership. Lets called them Authentic or Ethical Leaders. I've been teaching on Authentic Leadership to an MBA School, based on the Harvard Business School Model by by Professor Bill Bright. These means that Authentic leaders have different dimensions from that of other so called leaders. Their DNAs are different.

To add to the above qualities I would like to add some more from my personal experience:

1. An authentic leader is quick to praise others for deserving actions and takes time before reprimanding others.

2. Willing to submit and be accountable to an overseer, not just his professional life but personal life too.

3. Does not try to steal the limelight for his team's achievement. Is not jealous when some juniors are excelling.

4. Does not enforce something on others which he himself does not want to do or practice, which means he does not lead a duplicitous lifestyle.

5. Is impartial, fair in approach and sound in judgement.
